Creation ofgardenthroughMagguy Chaulet
In 1989, in the wake of Cyclone Hugo, Magguy Chaulet fashioned with her own hands one of the very first botanical gardens on the island: the Jardin de Valombre. Thirty-five years later, its reputation is based as much on its commitment to local species as on the beauty of its site.

The Valombre Botanical Garden is a family affair. Driven by her love of nature, Magguy imagines a sanctuary for Guadeloupe's biodiversity. Visionary, she sensed the fertility of this land where local plants would flourish. The whole family is mobilizing to gradually develop the estate and breathe new life into it.

Obtaining the labelRemarkable garden
In 2006, the Jardin de Valombre obtained the prestigious “Remarkable Garden” label, awarded by the Ministry of Culture. This national distinction recognizes gardens that are of particular aesthetic, botanical and heritage interest.

It also rewards the quality of maintenance, the richness of plant collections and the actions of transmission to the public. For the Jardin de Valombre, this label recognizes years of work and commitment to the development of tropical biodiversity.

Resumption of gardenthroughFranck Chaulet
In 2020, after a few more difficult years, a new impetus was given with the takeover by Magguy's nephew, Franck Chaulet.

After a year of work, the garden is being reinvented: reinforced team, redesigned routes, 100% electric train to discover the site, Maison de Magguy dedicated to memory and the arts of living of yesteryear and restaurant (La Badiane) to end the visit gently.

The garden also has conservation areas for flamingos, red ibises, lorikeets and macaws.
